Bachelor of Paramedical Technology
is a 3- year full- time degree program offered by various medical institutes in the country. Paramedical Technology is the science that deals with pre-hospital emergency services. A person who works in this field is called a Paramedic. The mainstream work areas in the paramedical science are obstetrics, fracture management, spinal injury management, and general accidents. With an increased demand for skilled paramedics, various career opportunities have opened for young aspirants. Many paramedical institutes in India offer courses in this field at the undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma levels.
Admission to this program is based on the candidate’s performance in a relevant entrance exam. In order to be eligible for taking the exam, the candidate needs to have passed the 10+2 examination from a recognized Board with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Upon completion of the course, successful graduates find employment opportunities in hospital, nursing homes, clinics, health departments etc. With the opening of various corporate hospitals, the scope for these professionals has increased tremendously. They may also pursue teaching as a profession. Successful graduates of the discipline can also open their own laboratories/ clinics for practice.
